Muddy Roads - Mandolin video lesson by Bradley Laird
This a downloadable video mandolin lesson that teaches you how to play the old time tune "Muddy Roads". You'll learn a basic version and then I'll show you some doublestops, a "reverse slide" and some other embellishments you can throw in.
This is a great old hypnotic tune that switches back and forth between the key of A and the key of D--all friendly territory for mandolin players. David Grisman recently release a version of this tune on an album titled Muddy Roads.
I learned it standing around backstage with Doc Watson. Our band Cedar Hill was opening for Doc and I heard him fooling around with this little tune and I asked him what it was called. The next morning I played it for about 4 hours. I hope you will too. I've been playing it for decades and it gets better the more you play it.
Note: This is the only video lesson I ever filmed using an old 1914 Gibson A- mandolin and wearing a stupid looking hat--all for that old-timey flavor!
The download includes the 25 minute video lesson, 2 MP3 practice tracks ( 2 speeds) and a PDF file with the tab and standard notation for the lesson.
